Below is a short biography of Femi Daniel
Femi Daniel
Femi leads Mastercard’s privacy and data protection team for its
Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa Region. His expertise in privacy
and data protection was known before joining Mastercard through his
demonstrated capacity and innovation in Nigeria where he led the
development and implementation of the country’s first data protection
framework, the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR).
He also made a huge contribution to the efforts aimed at the harmonization of data laws
in Africa as the Vice Chair of the African Union Technical Work Group on
Data Laws Harmonization, and his previous representation of Nigeria at
the African Network of Data Protection Authorities (ANDPA) and the
Commonwealth Network of Data Protection Authorities (Common Thread Network).
At Mastercard, Femi supports 81 countries in the region. His scope of
work include working with product and other business teams on ensuring
the implementation of Privacy by Design – whether this is through
product reviews, negotiations on data-related issues, navigating data
localization, driving awareness and training efforts. His regulatory
engagement with privacy regulators across the region has also helped to
ensure that new or changes to privacy and data protection laws enable
both protection and innovation, and are developed with reference to
international best practices.
Through his work, he has earned himself
the good reputation as a trusted business-partner and change-maker in
the region. One example of Femi’s leadership in the space was the
instrumental part he played earlier this year in the initiation and
delivery of a successful in-person data protection impact assessment
workshop with the Ugandan Personal Data Protection Office.
Femi is also a sought after speaker on data protection matters in the
region with recent speaking engagements such as _Implementing DPIAs in
Nigerian Fintech Organisations, PrivSecGlobal, and Dubai Fintech
Summit.
